| Disruptive Changes To The Mapping Industry |

During the last 2 years, Google and Microsoft have introduced disruptive change to the
mapping industry with their online mapping products.
While photogrammetric firms continue
to provide the highest accuracy data, many of the traditional government customers are under
pressure to not spend tax dollars on such contracts when free data is available from the
Internet providers. Though many in the industry have argued accuracy
deficiencies in the
free Internet data, it is proving more difficult to compete with free.
Unfortunately, these large scale Internet providers seem to want data below cost, are
driving prices down, and have made it difficult for the photogrammetric industry to remain
profitable.

In a struggle to
survive the foreseeable future, firms have been changing their practices regarding
data ownership. Rather than collecting data to be owned by the client, they are now
owning the data themselves and licensing to the client, in the hopes that they can
sell subsequent licenses to the data to remain profitable.
Unfortunately, for the same reasons of available free internet data, it is difficult
to find paying customers to sell subsequent data licenses to, and the data is aging
and becoming stale.
