Typical 3D software relies on modern video card capabilities.
Handhelds have slow processors, limited RAM,
low hard-drive throughput, and no floating point or 3D hardware
acceleration, on top of battery consumption considerations.
As such, typical 3D software is
only ported to handhelds at the expense of badly degraded
elevation detail.
Military consideration, be it visibility, trajectory,
signal reception, guiding systems, low altitude flight,
or ground cover, require detailed elevation resolution.
EarthDetails gains performance from its unique
terrain algorithm. It was painstakingly designed to still perform
even without floating point or 3D hardware, with minimal RAM
and hard-drive use, and with great elevation detail.

Watch EarthDetails on a TomTom GPS.
With the increased use of technology on the battlefield
and the illusive unmarked enemy,
today's individual combat soldier is overloaded by information
and burdened by split second decisions that can make the
difference between destroying the enemy and inflicting
friendly fire casualties.
By putting the 3D battlefield in the
hands of the combat soldier,
terrain, imagery, obstacles, access routes,
kill zones, fire support base, friendlies and enemies,
assets and targets, can be visually and intuitively
comprehended at a glance.
This will aid critical decisions in a high stress,
fast tempo, environment.

Situational changes can be punched in by soldiers
and instantly shared
over regular radio or satellite signals. Enemy can be located by
touching a point on the 3D view. Others will be able to see these changes
appear on their screen from their own vantage point.
They will lift the camera and see what is over the hill.
Click an enemy location and a drop down appears with all the
support weapons and assets that can currently
strike that point. The soldier will be able to pick one
and request support fire without tying up the company net
for the time it takes to do a fire mission over voice.
Upon enemy contact, the handheld can output locations to the
nearest dead ground to enemy fire.
