Problem
Large amounts of high resolution elevation
data, imagery, and sensory input are collected regularly
using drones and planes in operational environments such
as Afghanistan. Secure satellite links to distant
Headquarters is often limited bandwidth, critical for
essential communication, and cannot deliver these gigantic
datasets regularly. How do you gain timely access to your
data?
Solution
EarthDetails 3D Web Server
allows timely access to his
remote data for low-bandwidth applications including the
distant HQ overseas as well as digital handhelds and tablets
in the field.
EarthDetails customized 3D server (hardware
and software) can be located in the operational geography
where the high resolution data is being collected.
It will render the data internally and provide on-demand
3D images and line-of-sight analysis to clients that use standard
internet browsers on the network with minimal use of
bandwidth.
By processing the data on the server and sending only the
resulting images and query results to the clients, EarthDetails achieves the
following benefits:
- Bandwidth -
The EarthDetails 3D image will be typically 300KB.
A conventional client would need to download about 20 MB
of data, meaning EarthDetails consumes 65 times less
bandwidth to deliver that critical initial view.
- Data Sensitivity -
The core data never leaves the EarthDetails server.
The 3D rendered image and results of permitted analysis
go to the client as is. The client will have to come
back to the server for other perspectives or analysis on
the data. So control of the underlying data layer stays
central.
- Quality -
Because the underlying data tiles do not have to stream
to the client, the system does not have to compromise
quality for faster streaming. The server can cheaply
pull full needed detail to produce required tolerance images
and analysis while the
final image/query result will barely inflate, if at all.
- Quantity -
Because of centralized processing, EarthDetails can
cache expensive analysis, such as:
- show all terrain currently visible to all
suspected enemy locations, Or
- not visible to any friendly locations
in color-coded polygons.
