Defense - 3D Web Server

As ever more high resolution data is collected daily, remote access to the data from various sites becomes a challenge. Hard drives full of terrain and imagery data cannot be easily downloaded through a shared, secure satellite link.

Platform Independence

EarthDetails 3D Web Server allows the data to remain at the source, be rendered in 3D, and the resulting 3D scene is accessed on any platform with a basic web browser, even a smart phone. It does not require download and installation of any software or plugins. Basic HTML is all that is required.

50 Times Less Bandwidth

Because EarthDetails web server only downloads the resulting 3D scene, as opposed to all the underlying data tiles that go into constructing it, it downloads a 200 to 400 KiloByte jpeg instead of about 20 MegaBytes of data tiles. Clicking a distant point on the horizon jumps to a scene a 100 km away within a second.

Beta Server

A beta version of this server, is currently serving Natural Resources Canada topographic maps, imagery, and elevation data Canada wide. www.earthdetails.com

Check out use of the web server beta edition.
Note: This is only the public dataset with limited resolution. However, the EarthDetails engine is capable of handling very high resolution and irregular terrain data (example: 6 inch LIDAR) on equally large continental extents. Also note that the beta server was intended for recreational use and lacks any military grade functionality.
